Artist's Comments

I am in need of some help, pleeease.
I have started my Amy Lee portrait but I find it really hard to catch her look. I am not very familiar with her look but I have viewed some pictures of her to see how she looks from different angles. Still I find it hard to get her just right. I have posted the picture I am using as base for my drawing, here: [link]

Any comments would be appreciated.
Also, I was wondering about giving her a silver cross around her neck but I am not sure if that is really "her" or if it's too random/normal?

Are you going to draw the hands? They add a lot to the picture.
So far it looks great, love what you did with the lips=)

Forgot to say, I'm not sure it needs a cross there, the drawing pretty much stands by itself as it is. But that'd be your choice.

I love Amy Lee :aww: Hehe. Anyway, for some reason, I don't think her eyes look like "hers", but maybe that's just me. :/ A silver cross would look nice. I'm excitied to see the finished drawing!

The eyes are definetely Amy's, I recognized that right away. I've done so many drawings of her and still have a hard time capturing her look perfectly. I think a cross necklace would be great, since I believe she's a Christian :giggle: Looks so amazing so far, cant wait to see it finished. I've been waiting for you to do another Amy :excited:

I tell you I struggled with the eyes so badly, was hard to get the right size of the iris I felt. Maybe you are right that they aren't "hers".. not sure what to do to make them hers though?

looking good to me so far!

No I won't add the hands.. I want it to be simple. I think I will add some clothing, some blondecorsette thing, if I can manage that.

And now I finally am :D
Ohh that's great to hear actually, a silver cross it is, just wasn't sure if it was her style or if it should be more goth like or dark.. you know.

There are some really good things going on here. I like that you have a number of values. They really give her dimension. And the hair is so good. You have delt with it with such delicacy. The strands area gorgeous. Before I compared it to the reference pic I thought it was just fine how it is. But since you want it to look more like her, then I have a couple of suggestions. One is to elongate her face. It looks a little chubby in the cheek area. Take it down some and that should give her a more oval shape. You could even see if the ear needs to come in a bit. Another suggestion would be to draw this upside down. When you do that you see values and shapes instead of cheek, nose, eyes, etc. It really works. Overall, this is really good and I can't wait to see the end result. :)

Hey!

Okay, I think what would make her look more like her is the fact that you have drawn her to be so sweet and innocent looking, but in that picture, she's not. The hollows under her eyes are very important, and so is the shading around her mouth. And I definetly think that she needs the eyebrow ring. It's almost signature.

Also, I like the idea of a cross. Nice touch.

I love the hair!! It's gorgeuos!!!!!!

Draw what you see, and not what you think you see.
