I did the main part of this drawing in the early spring of 2006. I wrote this long story which was attached to the drawing and idea. However, I've decided not to post it after all as it's rather personal and I feel it belongs in the past.
It's not about a boy, which might be the obvious thought. It's about my childhood/youth which was really troubled and sad in many ways. It's something I try my best to put behind me even though I believe scars you get early in life has a hold on you and in a way will never completely fade away. Growing up I have learned that we all have troubles in our youth and childhood more or less, it's something we have to deal with. With every struggle and despair you grow stronger. I guess that's what growing up is, constantly learning and maturing. The way we solve our problems and the choices we take are what forms us to become the person we are today, it is what defines us.
During the past year I have been wondering whether or not I should complete this drawing. It's hard to explain, but some of my drawings belongs to a certain time in life and is to stay there. In the end I decided to complete it as I wouldn't want it to be an uncompleted piece either, after all the work and feelings I put into it.
It's really powerful to me to be able to look at this drawing and feel it's in the past. Sometimes it's hard to break free when you have nothing to break free for, which I felt at the time. But... there is always hope at the end of the rainbow, we just have to keep believing.
The girl in the drawing is me. I wanted to show a girl somewhere between child and adult. A grown woman with the feel of a child, symbolizing the scars of the childhood.
You can really feel the emotions going on here. You're wonderful with expressionism. I'm sorry to hear that your childhood wasn't that good, mine wasn't pleasant either. But that's the best part of growing up: Putting the past behind you. It doesn't mean you have to forget, though.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
This contest ends on Friday the 18th December 2009. If you want to enter, get your entries in quick! Here are all the entries so far. Also if you want to donate a prize, that would be fantastic too, just note me
